This is the first song we wrote as a newfound four-piece group (Miles wasn't technically even in the band yet)! We had just gotten back from eating lunch and Jacob was playing random chords on guitar like it was nothing. He started playing the four chords that would become the basis of this song and Miles shot up from behind the drums. "Play that again," Miles said, and Jacob followed suit. Soon, the whole band was jamming on this new burst of energy, formulating what would be this song that gave them all a feeling they had never felt before. After they finished jamming and writing the lyrics, they knew something had clicked; they all knew they had captured lightning in a bottle.
After many months of attempting recording sessions and getting their feet wet with trials and errors, the fans at their shows would always be asking the same question:
"When are you guys releasing People Pleaser?"
"When is People Pleaser coming out??"
"Where can I find People Pleaser???"
The song has since become a staple of Monday at Midnight's live shows. Crowds chant the cathartic chorus of "You're just a People Pleaser" while the four guys give their all into their instruments. Miles' energetic vocals and booming drums, Jacob's soaring guitar lines, John's driving downstrokes and dances, and Ben's bass holding it all together, the song always leaves a lasting impression on their live audiences.
We sincerely hope that you enjoy this song that we've worked so hard on. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you❤️🎭
lyrics
There is a wool over my eyes
Although I’ve seen this a hundred times
Why do I stay when
What makes me happy is what makes me die
You go around
Telling your different stories, now
So then where is the truth
In all that shit you told me
You’re too scared to be yourself
When I’m sitting with you
Maybe I just can’t see clear
I’ll never know if I got through
You play dumb around me
Break me down until I’m weaker
'Cause you’re just a people pleaser
[Instrumental]
Always changing places
Different room, different faces
Tears behind your laugh (ha ha ha!)
Becoming more detached
You can't seem to keep your story straight
You tell me lies (you tell me lies!)
Always in search of someone
To be your emotional spiiiiiiiiinnneeee
You’re too scared to be yourself
When I’m sitting with you
Maybe I just can’t see clear
I’ll never know if I got through
You play dumb around me
Break me down until I’m weaker
'Cause you’re just a people pleaser
“Say what’ll make him happy”
Is that what you think is best?
But all I’ve ever wanted
Is for you to be honest
How can you live like that?
How can you live with yourself?
How can you live like that?
How can you live with yourself?
[Another instrumental]
You’re not scared to be yourself
In your own twisted mind
You say "you’ll never find another me"
But baby I’m not blind
Don’t try and be what you’re not
Before who you really are is lost and forgot
'Cause you’re just a people pleaser
[little break thingy]
'Cause you’re just a people pleaser
Woo!
